COST, www.cost.eu, is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology.  COST contributes to reducing and opening the European Research Area to cooperation worldwide and thus makes it possible for various national facilities, institutes, universities and private industry to work jointly on a wide range of R&D activities. It thus anticipates and complements the activities of the EU Framework Programmes, constituting a “bridge” towards the scientific communities of emerging countries. It also increases the mobility of researchers across Europe.

COST actions are thus ‘bottom-up’ approaches to research and will facilitate, networking and other events. There are no funds for research as such but researchers are reimbursed for expenses in conjunction with flights and accommodation to COST meetings – it also leads to excellent contacts and can also lead to preparation for future grant proposals e.g. as in FP.  Meetings would be 2-3 times per year. It can also lead to publications and organization of training schools. It is particularly suitable for young researchers as well and there is minimal administration involved.

All those interested to participate as Management Committee Members in COST actions should complete the relevant form and send it to MCST as per details below.

Only complete applications including all the requested signatures will be processed.

The review also involves the use of external peer reviewers. These experts form a “pool of expertise” who can be used by domain in an ad hoc manner, e.g. for assessments. A call is being made for researchers in Malta to apply to become domain experts. Those interested are asked to fill in the attached form MCST Application for inclusion as expert in COST domain

For further information or advice or queries please contact the DC representative of that specific action or Malta COST CNC.
