Engage today to shape tomorrow – Future-oriented Technology Analysis Conference27-28 November 2014, Brussels, Belgium

from 27th November 2014 till 28th November 2014

In an era where the world is changing at high speed and where problems are becoming increasingly complex, it is important that we are prepared for the future.

Since 2004, the Joint Research Centre (JRC)<https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/>, the European Commission’s in-house science service, has organised four FTA (Future-oriented Technology Analysis) conferences aimed at developing communities of foresight, forecasting and technology assessment, where experts interact and help in guiding strategy, policy and decision-making to anticipate and shape future developments. The Joint Research Centre relies on foresight and horizon scanning to look at the longer-term impact of policies and technologies anticipating emerging societal challenges. Foresight is particularly important as it enables us to think strategically about the future.

This year, the fifth edition of the FTA 2014 conference will be organised under the headline “Engage today to shape tomorrow” on the 27-28 November in Brussels, Belgium.

The main objective of the conference is to engage in meaningful conversation to identify possible synergies and future developments and to support the participants to explore the use and impacts of FTA approaches. There are three main themes that will shape the programme of this year’s conference:

  • FTA and Innovation Systems
  • Creative interfaces for forward looking activities
  • Cutting edge FTA approaches

The conference will go beyond the usual programme of keynotes, papers and posters. Workshops and knowledge labs are foreseen to allow participants experience novel approaches and share their ideas, expertise and knowledge in an interactive environment. In addition, the conference aims to consolidate the international network of foresight academics and practitioners in business, civil society organisations and government, but as well to match with policy makers searching to discover innovative policy making tools.

You are cordially invited to attend the conference. Please register via our FTA 2014 website< https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/event/site/fta2014> until 18 November 2014.
